Thomas Mourey III
A proud and tireless worker, Tom spent 33 years employed by the M.U.A. Sewerage Authority, where his strong work ethic and dedication were well known. His commitment to the community extended far beyond his career. Tom devoted over 30 years to coaching and volunteering with P.A.L., earning his place in the Hall of Fame. He could often be found behind the grill, happily making hamburgers and hotdogs for the kids.
Sundays were reserved for the Pittsburgh Steelers, while other days were spent watching NASCAR and Penn State football. His music taste was classic and bold: Pink Floyd and Metallica were his favorites. In his younger years, Tom loved motorcycles and playing softball with his friends. One of his favorite spots was Derby’s, especially for the cold beer and wings.
Holidays held a special place in Tom’s heart, as he proudly dressed as Santa for several years at the Riverside Holiday Fair. Summers often meant one of Tom’s infamous sunburns, as he loved laying out by the pool with his family, one of his favorite pastimes. He was never one to stay inside for long and always enjoyed soaking up the sunshine while working in his garden.
Tom and Diane had known each other for many years, growing up in Delanco and eventually becoming an inseparable pair. They shared 51 years of marriage, and their secret was simple: patience. Later in life, Tom became better known as “Pop-Pop.” Being a Pop-Pop was one of his greatest joys, as he always took a genuine interest in his grandchildren and cherished every moment spent with them.
Tom is survived by his wife Diane; children: Thomas, Aimee (Ronnie), and Michael (Danielle); grandchildren: Deven, Trinidi, McKenzie, and Sofie; great-grandchildren: Milani and Rhea; siblings: Larry (Lori), Sharon (George), Monica (Mark), and Ronnie. He was predeceased by parents: Thomas and Martha Mourey and sister Marcie (Allen). He will be missed by 15 nieces and nephews and 30 plus great nieces and nephews, along with many cousins and friends.
Come celebrate 72 great years on Thursday December 18, from 6pm-8pm at Sweeney Funeral Home, 337 Bridgeboro Street, Riverside NJ. Tom’s family requests that everyone please dress in something comfortable or one of Tom’s favorite sports teams gear.
