Francis R. Fray (Hughie)

Francis R. Fray (Hughie)

Francis R. Fray (Hughie) passed away peacefully on Monday, August 4, 2025, at the age of 95. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Hughie lived a long and vibrant life filled with family, faith, music, laughter, and generosity. Known for his charm, his humor, and his impeccable style, Hughie did it all with a touch of class. He was outgoing, quick to make a friend, and never failed to bring a smile to those around him. He was a great listener who loved to help others, and people often came to him for advice. Hughie spent six years in the seminary before leaving. Shortly after, he saw his beloved wife Shirley walking down the street. They met in kindergarten where he developed a quick crush. From those early days bloomed a beautiful love story. They married in 1956 and shared 58 years of marriage before Shirley’s passing in 2014. Once they were married, Hughie was drafted and proudly servied in the U.S Army and was stationed in Gerogia. Hughie chose a career rooted in education. A gifted educator, he taught at Holy Cross High School in the early days and was a Professor at Peirce College where he started the Court Reporting program which quickly rose to the top in the area. He was a longtime choir member and sang with numerous groups, including Corpus Christi, St. Mary of the Lakes, Holy Eucharist, as well as the Cinnaminson Chorus. He also took great joy in directing musical shows and was the director of the senior’s group in his area. He was known to generously spend on others before himself and never hesitated to treat loved ones. He loved trips to the beach, dancing, and had the fortune to travel through Europe. Hughie’s grandchildren adored him and were a huge part of his life.

A devoted Philadelphia sports fan, Hughie cheered passionately for the Eagles and Phillies. Above all else, Hughie was a family man and will be missed dearly by his beloved children, Gregory Fray, predeceased by Linda Fray, Lisa Price (Scott), Carole Fray Ehrgott (Eric), Grandchildren: Jennifer Rossi (Robert), Mark Fray (Sara), Zachary Fray (Taylor), Scott Price, Jr (Tara), Andrew Liebner and Great Granddaughter, Zata Fray.

Come celebrate 95 years on Saturday August 9, from 10am-11am at St Mary of the Lakes, Medford NJ. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11am. Interment Lakeview Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Samaritan Hospice of Burlington County.
