CURRENT CELEBRATIONS
Edwin Francis Shinn
Edwin Francis Shinn was a man of strength and determination. Once he set his mind to something, he never gave up, no matter how long it took or how difficult the task. That determination could be seen in everything he did, from building his own basement for storage, to the way he lived each day with patience, purpose, and care. Ed could handle any repair around his home and even built an addition. He was hardworking, funny, and endlessly talented. Ed spent 35 years working for the NJ Transit bus company. An artist at heart, he was a proud member of the Burlington County and Willingboro Art Guilds, winning many awards over the years. He found peace and joy through painting, never without his sketchbook. In the fall, he and the late Cecilia spent time at their 30 year Stowe, Vermont, timeshare. He lived an active life well into his later years, starting at a young age as a gymnast and swimmer at Riverdel, later becoming a runner (several miles a day), and eventually a devoted walker. He kept himself and his children active with all types of activities from horseback riding to ice skating. He was a master of Sunday morning pancakes, and his clam chowder and bean soup were famous among family and friends.
Faith was central to Ed’s life. He attended St. Peter’s church daily with his beloved wife and served faithfully as a lecter and altar server. Their partnership was one of devotion and teamwork, lasting 71 almost 72 years. In his later years Ed took on the role of homemaker, tending to the household with the same care and pride his wife always had. To his grandchildren, he was “Grandfather”, but he was also a teacher, a storyteller, and a constant source of encouragement. He patiently taught each of them how to swim and ride a bike, and he proudly shared fabricated stories of his time overseas as a veteran, his go-to story was about riding snakes through the jungle. Ed was deeply loving and selfless, always putting others before himself. He devotedly cared for his brother, the late Copper, and spent his life quietly taking care of everyone around him. He truly loved life and lived it fully, with intention, compassion, and joy.
Ed is predeceased by his wife Cecilia, his parents Paul and Carri Shinn, and his siblings Catherine, Doris, Paul, and Harper “Copper”.
He is survived by his children Edwin (Denise) Shinn and Carri (Tony) Carucci; grandchildren Edju (Krystle), Leah (Derrick), Nathan (Aubrey), Tony, Kaitlyn (Josh), Trista (Dillwyn), Kala, and Zach (Sam); great-grandchildren Anthony, Tyler, Jayden, Isabella, Nathan, Emma, McKenzie, Dillwyn, Jack Henry, Jaxon, AnnaLea, and Tilly; great-great grandchildren Grayson and Leo; his sister Elanor, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
