Erlene McFarland

Erlene McFarland

You didn’t have to be related to her to call her Mommom, Erlene was a loving woman who treated everyone like family. And It didn’t have to be a party for Erlene to be sipping on her signature gin and orange Sunkist. She had the remarkable gift of being able to eat anything she pleased, cheesesteaks, Italian food, TastyKakes, and all the candy she desired, yet she never seemed to gain a pound. In her free time, especially around the holidays, she enjoyed browsing through catalogs searching for the perfect gifts for her family.

Erlene met the love of her life, the late Bobby, at a young age. Their Father’s were best friends, the two grew up together in Philadelphia, and before Bobby could be shipped off to the Air Force, they married. Not long after they had their first child, and then traveled around the world for Bobby’s job, and soon after welcomed their second child. The family lived in Japan, California, the Carolinas, and more, but Erlene’s favorite place to be was Delran. Delran is where the grass was green and air was perfect to Erlene. She made many friends over the years living in town and loved her home on Haines Mill Road more than anything.

Erlene lived a life centered around the people she loved most: her family. She shared a special bond with her sister Anna May, so close that they were often described as twin-like. In their later years, they lived together, laughed together, and became their own version of “The Golden Girls,”. From her earliest days to her final years, nothing brought her more joy than her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, each of whom she cherished.

Erlene is predeceased by her husband Robert, and her siblings Mary, Jack, and Anna May.

She is survived by her children Patti and Robert (Patty), her grandchildren Kelly (Shane) McFarland and Melissa (Tommy) Lupinski, and her great grandchildren Owen, Taylor, Riley, and Logan.

Come celebrate 92 great years on Monday December 1st from 8:30am to 9:30am where there will be a 9:30am service at Sweeney Funeral Home 337 Bridgeboro St Riverside. Interment immediately to follow at Beverly National Cemetery, 916 Bridgeboro Rd Beverly. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association at https://diabetes.org an association close to Erlene due to her late husband having Diabetes.

Mrs. M was one of a kind and the world we never be the same. We will never be the same. I met her at a very young age, and she was always so nice to me. She treated me and David like family, and I can never forget her kindness over the years. She loved her Gin and Sunkist, the Phillies, and scratch off lotto tickets. But most of all she loved her family blood and non-blood. Heaven gained another Angel, and she can be happy in heaven with her husband.

I loved seeing Momma Mac sitting in the kitchen every time I visited Delran. She always made me feel welcome and right at home. We never lacked for anything to talk about. Her laughter and smile is something I will keep close to my heart.

We lived up the street from mom mom. My Son Brian and Melissa (fondly called Melvin) are friends. So many fond memories of the two of them together but even more when Brian would get ready to run out the door with me saying where are you off to (as if I didn’t know) and he would yell back “going to see mom mom”. My prayers are with Patty, Melvin and all the family. May mom mom rest in peace with all her family, laughing, and sharing her gin and Sunkist. Love and prayers for All
