Robert “Bob” VanMeter

Bob was born in Philadelphia in December of 1930.  He grew up in Delair and had a long residency in Riverside, NJ.

Bob served in the US Airforce from 1951-1953.  He was a 1st class airman and fought in the Korean War.

Bob loved sports he coached in the PAL league. He taught the fundamentals of football and baseball to the youths of Riverside.  He was also a huge Phillies and Eagles fan.  He also loved watching his two grandsons play sports. One of his favorite pastimes was baking cookies and making Jewish apple cakes.

He met the love of his life Theresa through her aunt, and the two shared 65 years of marriage. He was a saint of a husband loving and kind.  They loved their Tuesday trips to the casinos and their dinners at Applebees. They celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in Hawaii and spent countless summers making memories with family in Wildwood.

Bob at 94 was still working with the Riverside Sewer Authority. He was a retired plumber and also retired from Riverside schools.

Bob was preceded by his parents Thomas and Catherine VanMeter and five sisters and one brother.

He is survived by his wife Theresa nee Catanzariti, and children Patty (Ed) Furlong and Tina (Frank) Dolce, and his grandchildren Douglas and Shane who called him Pop-pop.

Come celebrate 94 great years on Friday November 7th from 6-8pm and again on Saturday November 8th from 10-11am where there will be an 11am service at Sweeney Funeral Home Riverside 337 Bridgeboro Street Riverside.  Interment immediately to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Riverside. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to his favorite charities St. Jude’s children’s research hospital or the veterans association.
