Joan S Wiedeman

Joan S Wiedeman

On the 2nd of August 2025 Joan Wiedeman passed on from this world peacefully at her home in Mt. Laurel, New Jersey seen off by her loving family of her husband and sons. A Wife, a Mother, a Grandmother and unrivaled force of will, Joan carried on and persevered through her medical struggles for years before deciding that she had given all that she could, and that it was time to rest. Born the 14th of April 1940 in Mount Holly, Joan lived a long 85 years across the states of North Carolina, New Jersey, and Virginia, but spent the lions’ share of her life in Southern New Jersey.

While Joan could be accurately described as the Matriarch of the Wiedeman family as far back as her days managing and maintaining a household of three boys, the title could never completely do justice to the role that she filled within the lives of her family. She was a foundation of both reason and compassion, traits that only continued to grow when her family did as each of her sons founded their own households. Those who knew her penchant for reading and documentaries would never make the mistake of thinking her irrational, though her friends and family all knew of her capacity for dedication and love for others. She would never fail to attend a family sporting event if given the chance and could talk at length to anyone about the latest accolades of her grandchildren. Joan had a love for animals that was core to her very personality, and from childhood lived nearly her entire life with at least one greatly beloved and cared for pet. In time she also grew into the role of keeping the family history, one borne of her fondness for telling the stories of her youth and of her own ancestors to any of her children and grandchildren who had ears to listen.

Joan is survived by her Husband of 66 years Dave Wiedeman; her sons Michael (Rose), Victor (Lynne) and Paul (Susan) Wiedeman; her nephews Ryan (Tish) and Eric Rogers; her niece Kaci Rogers; her grandchildren Justin, Kade, Sara, Abby and Matthew Wiedeman; her great-grandchildren Averie, Peyton, Colton and Phoebe Wiedeman. She was preceded in death by her father Victor Atwood Severns, mother Estelle Regina Severns, and sister Linda Rogers. Joan will be dearly missed and remembered reverently by the many other family and friends that she leaves behind.

At Joans’ request the immediate family will be holding a small private gathering without formal funerary or religious services, though the family encourages any who wish to celebrate and remember the life of Joan Wiedeman in their own manner.
