Jon Scott Hewko
Jon Scott Hewko
Jon Scott Hewko passed away peacefully on June 23, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones, just one day after celebrating his 72nd birthday. Remembered for his sweet tooth, love of the beach, passion for cars, sharp style, and fondness for mafia movies, Jon made a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. He took pride in doing things the right way, and lived a life grounded in service to others. If someone needed help, Jon would move mountains to make it happen.
Raised in Hatboro, PA by father Alex and mother Barbara, Jon was the oldest of four brothers. He spent his youth playing sports, causing mischief, and fulfilling his role as the coolest guy in Upper Moreland High School. He attended Salem College in West Virginia where he joined Sigma Pi and graduated with a degree in Business. Jon later obtained his Masters in Public Administration from Pennsylvania State University.
In his post-graduate summer, Jon met the love of his life, Bunny Brown, in Ocean City, NJ. Always a lover of baseball, their first date was to a batting cage. Bunny and Jon were married on October 30, 1976. They spent almost 50 years together.
In February 1985, Jon and Bunny welcomed their first child, Colin Patrick. Their daughter, Katie Marie (Kathleen), followed in September 1987. They raised their family in Delran, NJ, where Jon was deeply involved in the community. He coached many of Colin and Katie’s sports teams and supported their artistic and academic pursuits with equal enthusiasm. A proud member of the local Democratic Party, Jon ran for both Burlington County Freeholder and Delran Mayor. He also served on the Delran Sewerage Authority and held the role of Delran Democratic Committeeman. His commitment to public service extended to a nearly 30-year career in upper management with the New Jersey Department of Labor, where he worked to improve the lives of others across the state.
In April of 2019, Jon and Bunny became grandparents when Colin and his wife Kristine welcomed Phoenix Grace into the world. She was the apple of Jon’s eye. Being Phoenix’s Pop-Pop was Jon’s proudest and most favorite accomplishment.
In 2021, Jon and Bunny purchased a beautiful home and relocated to Galloway, NJ to be closer to the Jersey Shore where they fell in love.
Jon is survived by his wife Bunny Brown Hewko (Kathleen), his son Colin Hewko and his wife Kristine Rushby, his daughter Katie Hewko-Dykes (Kathleen) and her husband John Dykes, his granddaughter and center of his universe Phoenix Grace Hewko, his brothers Eric, Alex, and Robert, his sister-in-law Vanessa, his nieces April, Heather, and Hillary, and nephew Adam.
A celebration of life for Jon Scott Hewko will be held at Sweeney’s Funeral Home in Riverside, NJ on Saturday, August 16, 2025 from 10AM-11AM, where there will be an 11AM service. In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Jon’s name to Type 1 Diabetes Exchange at www.t1dexchange.org/donate.
Jon leaves a lasting legacy of love and kindness. He will be fiercely and forever missed.
